Most Staten Island houses have at least one full staircase, and many split-levels have several short ones. Stairs take more wear than any floor in the house, so we fit them with care: carpet on each step with a firm pad, or a runner that leaves the wood showing.
On the East Shore and South Shore, in Midland Beach, New Dorp Beach, Oakwood and the neighborhoods near the water, basements and ground floors have to be ready for water. Solid wood swells and cups with damp. Vinyl plank and porcelain tile handle it, and we put a vapor barrier under them where the slab needs one.
Townhouse developments and condos on the Island sometimes have an association with rules on work hours or the materials allowed. If yours does, send us what they sent you and we will plan around it. Work in the city happens inside construction hours of 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays.
